We are delighted to welcome Annie, Ella, Lilly, Tadhg, Diarmuid, Mark, Lily, Joe and David to our classroom and we hope you will be really happy with us in the Middle classroom.
Our classrom is like a tree with strong roots and growing branches. We are like the birds on the tree that are learning to fly. Every day is a learning day in school and just like the little birds we want to fly high this year. When we learn we grow.

Writing with Flowie
3rd class are making gallant efforts at their cursive writing and are working on speed now. 2nd class are going over their letters this year and I can see some lovely cursive writing in some copies aleady from 2nd class. 1st class have just started on their cursive writing and are working so hard on getting off to a great start. We look at Flowie on the white board to help us to get things right to 'Go with the Flow'!!
We are Bucket Fillers in our classroom .
We loved the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
We each carry an imaginary bucket around with us. Being kind to others fills their buckets and while we fill others buckets we are filling our own at the same time. When we’re not kind, we dip into and spill others’ buckets. In our class we figured out how to be a bucket filler and not a bucket spiller.

We went on a Tree Hunt......
We set off on a tree hunt on a sunny September afternoon to the outdoor classroom which is our school garden. We are so fortunate to have a huge amount of trees to explore and we had the job of trying to find the trees on our plaques. WE are looking forward to tree day next week where we will be learning lots more about our native Irish trees.
Self-Portraits
Do you recognise yourself in these masterpieces?
Looking after our Teeth
We learned all about teeth in SESE this month. We now know all about the incisors, canines, premolars and molars. We know how strong our enamel is but we know it is important that we don’t let that enamel get a cavity.
we learned how to take care of our teeth by brushing twice daily, visiting the dentist regularly, eating healthy food and avoiding too many sugary foods and drinks.
In Science we did an experiment to examine the effects of different drinks on our teeth. We left an egg in containers of water, milk, ribena, coke and energy drink. We had to predict the results but we were really shocked to see how the effects of the ribena and energy drink. This is an important lesson for us to learn.

Thanks to Miss Mc Cormack our wonderful student teacher for bringing each class out on this fun maths class.

Mí na Nollag
In Advent we prepare for the birthday of Jesus. We learned about the Advent wreath. It is made from evergreen leaves because Jesus love for us never dies.
it is circular because Jesus love goes on for ever and has no beginning and no end.
Each week a different candle will be lit as we get nearer to Christmas.

The Celts
In Ireland we are very proud of our Celtic roots and we enjoyed learning about the people who lived during the Iron Age and who came to settle and call the island of Ireland home more than 2,500 years ago. Hard to belive that we still use some of the same words, enjoy the same music and share some of the same characteristics of the Celts during the Iron Age.
Learning about the Lungs in Science
In science we have been learning about the lungs. We made fantsatic model lungs in class and at home and some people demonstrated the respiratory system to Ms Costello and Ms Mc Loughlin's classes.

Check out the future Mozart’s and Bach’s in the slideshow below.

The Island of Saints and Scholars- Early Christian Ireland
In SESE we have been learning about Early Christian Ireland and how Ireland was famous for its many monasteries. We built our own monastic settlement including the scriptorium, refectory, oratory, round tower and many cells. We also made some monks and the abbot from clay. We looked at videos of the Long Room in Trinity College and heard about the famous Book of Kells. In Art we recreated our own version of a page from the special book.
As the saying goes ‘ Rome wasn’t built in a day ‘ but I think we did a fairly good job on our monastic settlement complete with abbot , monks, animals and even a snake that escaped St Patrick.!
Walking Water and Verdigris in Science

Unfortunately we have had to put this event on hold since 2020 but we certainly didn't forget them this and made cards to bring home to tell them how much they mean to us.

The Story of David and Goliath
In Grow in Love this week we heard the story of brave David who took on the giant Goliath in a battle to save his people. David knew that God was his friend and was there to help him. David went on to be a great leader so we pray for some of his courage , bravery and faith in God’s love for us.

Turas ranga go dtí Féile an Aonaigh 9/3/2022
Ghlacamar páirt i bhFéile an Aonaigh an bhliain seo. Chanamar amhráin sa Féile. Rain didn't dampen our spirits as we enjoyed our day out in Nenagh. After the Féile we also got to visit Nenagh Heritage Centre and enjoyed a superb tour led by Gerard who told us many stories of life in the past. We got to see at first hand many interesting artefacts and Gerard told us what school life might have been like ( Ms Quigley is a piece of cake after what Gerard told us!!!!!)
We visited the old shop before taking a trip to the prison cell! Luckily we all escaped and headed for the castle where we heard some of the history of the rivalry between the Butlers and the O' Briens before climbing the spiral stairs for great views of Nenagh. Annie's aunt invited us to visit Nenagh Tourist centre where we got to sit in the hurley chair and spot some famous and familiar photos in the photography exhibition. After all that history we headed to Easons with our world book day tokens before returning back on the bus exhausted but delighted with our fun day out!

A Spring Walk
We set off in the bright sunshine to check out some signs of spring last week. Armed with our checklists we heard the birds singing and bees buzzing, counted the hours on dandelion clocks, tested the butter lovers, found some calves, stuck goose grass ( sticky backs) on Ms Quigley , saw the white stitchworth, yellow primroses, blue forgetmenots and pink cranesbill among many other things . How lucky we are to live with all this beautiful nature on our doorstep.
Cherry Blossom Printing
The stunning cherry blossom makes us want to recreate its beauty in art each year. With pink 'snow' on the ground we examined the petals around our tree. We noted all the shading that we wanted to try to capture with paint.
Using bubble wrap we made our own cherry blossoms which really look well.

MEITHEAMH 2022
Ag dul ag snámh
We were delighted to be able to resume swimming lessons in Nenagh Leisure Centre this year. Everybody made great progress thanks to Peter and his team of swimming coaches there. From taking first steps in the water to jumping in the deep end it was wonderful to see all the class grow in confidence as well as learn about how to stay safe in the water. During the summer months we hope to have lots of opportunities to go swimming but it is important to always respect the water and follow the signs to keep safe. On the last day we had a picnic and trip to the playground followed by a visit to Nenagh library where lots of people signed up for the Summer Stars reading initiative.

Sports Day 2022
A fun filled day was had by all on June 22nd with our annual sports day in Burgess NS. Thanks to Rody and his team for making it all such a success. Hopefully it heralds the start of a wonderful activity-filled summer.
A Summer Clean-Up
We are blessed to live and go to school in a beautiful area with a nature=filled environment full of new things to see each day. We are learning how to take care of our world starting with the world around us. Each year we do a clean-up of our local area and head off armed with bags and litter pickers to clean up any rubbish thrown around. It is a pity that this needs to be done as all it takes is a little thought and responsibility on the part of everyone and there would be no rubbish to pick up.
The good news to report is this year we found a lot less rubbish than other years. There were very few coffee cups, crisp bags and take away cartons in the ditches so it made our job very easy this year and gave us time to spot ladybirds on our journey.
